SCHOOLS GET EXTRA TIME TO COMPLY WITH GAINFUL EMPLOYMENT REGS

Last month the Department of Education announced that they were allowing schools additional time to comply with two components of the Gainful Employment Rules. Schools with Gainful Employment Programs now have until July 1, 2016 to submit an Alternate Earnings Appeal and to begin using the 2017 Gainful Employment Template on their institutional website.

According to the Electronic Announcement “This action is taken to allow the Department to further review the GE regulations and their implementation”. Initially, we believed that this was a firm signal that the administration was eyeing GE regulations for repeal, but Betsy DeVos’s recent defense of the regulations in her suit with AACS sends a different message.

Whether the administration intends to repeal the regulation remains the subject of speculation by many, including those vocal critics of for-profits. Long story short – hedge your bets – At present and until something changes, Gainful Employment Regs are here: http://bit.ly/2numXfk
