Change to Unusual Enrollment History (UEH) selection

The U.S. Department of Education released an electronic announcement highlighting changes to selection criteria used to select FAFSA applicants for Unusual Enrollment History (UEH) that went into effect on January 1, 2016. When UEH monitoring began during the 2013-2014 award year, only Pell recipients were monitored. Last year beginning with the 2015-2016 award year, monitoring was expanded to include Direct Loan Borrowers.

The changes focus on concerns raised by institutions after seeing an increase in the number of applicants selected for UEH monitoring, particularly students who attend several institutions as undergraduates and then attend one or more as graduate students.

On January 22, 2016 these changes went into effect and schools were sent reprocessed ISIRS, with updated NSLDS Postscreening Reason codes (value 24) which may eliminate the need for the institution to resolve UEH statuses from earlier ISIR transactions.
