The Campus Crime and Security Survey, or “Annual Security Report” is due by October 1st of each year. The annual security report collects information regarding campus security policies and also campus crime statistics.
A school must make a reasonable effort to obtain the required statistics and may rely on the information supplied by a local or state police agency.
The report must contain crime statistics for the three calendar years preceding the year in which the report is disclosed. The report due on October 1, 2016 will include statistics for the 2013, 2014 and 2015 calendar years. If you haven’t already, you will soon be receiving a registration certificate by mail, which contains a user ID and Password. In August the survey website will open for online registration. The link for the website is: http://surveys.ope.ed.gov/security/
Once registered, you can begin entering information for the data collection. There is a large list of items that must be included in the Annual Security Report and also as part of your consumer information. Please refer to Volume 2, Chapter 6 of the Federal Student Aid Handbook for more information about the necessary reporting requirements.
In case you missed it, the Handbook for Campus Safety and Security Reporting was recently updated. The new and improved, handbook is the first update in years and includes updated guidance for reporting and compliance with the Clery Act including the amendments made by the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act known as VAWA.
